What is Work Out Loud?

After more than two decades of working in the social impact industry, I’ve learned a lot. But I’m still learning and changing my mind all the time, which is inherent in the complex and messy road to meaningful social change. Work out Loud aims to chronicle my learning, and share it with whoever may benefit as well. So that my quest for impact can ease your progress in yours.

Downtown Nairobi, Kenya, circa 2012.

About Roshan

My career has focused on creating impact globally. I'm currently in senior management at a large global nonprofit based in the United States. Prior to this, I’ve been an award-winning social entrepreneur and impact leader with over 20 years of global experience on 6 continents.

I’ve written three books and dozens of other essays, done 2 TEDx talks, and spoken at more than 50 universities and other major institutions around the world, including a commencement speech at a major university. I've also been interviewed in Fast Company, The Huffington Post, Vanity Fair, Forbes, and CNBC Africa, among others.

My latest book, The New Reason to Work, an Amazon #1 bestseller, shows how anybody can build a career that will change the world. I firmly believe that as more and more people commit to working with purpose, we will solve our social problems, improve how business is done, and lead fulfilling lives.

What the blog will contain

Each blog - arriving roughly twice a month - will contain:

1.     Something I’m Learning – a short reflection on what I’ve been experiencing or thinking about in my work and quest for impact.

  • Anything I write here will be a loosely held opinion. I might be proven wrong as I learn more, I might change my mind, and I might even disagree with myself in years to come (see below). But I’ll genuinely think what I’m thinking today and won’t ever aim for outrage or clicks. I know, how boring.

2.     Something Worth Sharing – an article/podcast/video I think is worth considering.

3.     Something to Quote – a quote I think you may like as much as I do.
